Cancellations, next steps, and looking forward.

MN Select family,

All of our players, their families, and our coaches are on our minds as we deal with the incredible repercussions for our society during this time. We are so incredibly disappointed that we are not able to share the sport that we love in-person with you. However, we realize the gravity of the situation – we must ALL work to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Minnesota.

Here is a status update – as of 4/17/2020:

MN Select Volleyball Center remains closed until further notice. We are awaiting additional recommendations and requirements from Governor Walz and the MDH regarding when we will open again.

All MN Select Events – the Saturday and Sunday tournaments we host virtually every weekend – are cancelled through at least Sunday, May 3rd. I suspect we will cancel events the second weekend of May as well. However, we expect to have time yet to make final decisions about those events (and beyond) in the weeks ahead.

MN Select Connect is our new way to stay connected with our membership! Make sure to check out the daily emails sent with The BASE workouts and ways to stay mentally and physically sharp during our time away from the court.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through all these details at this time. We simply do not have the staff resources available to answer every follow-up question each of you may have. We ask you to reach out with your questions judiciously.

Personally, I have some goals or motivations guiding my decisions right now. #1 – I want to be sure MN Select does all we can to ensure the health and safety of our players, families, and coaches. #2 – Get our athletes and coaches back into the gym as soon as possible while continuing #1. #3 – Make sure MN Select has a long, bright future for years to come.

As we indicated last week, we are prepared to provide a bit more detail about the financial ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic for MN Select JO teams. Your team falls within one of the three categories listed below.

Teams w/ Final Payment due in March: all boys’ teams, 12-Black, YDTs

If you have not paid your bill in full, please pay all EXCEPT your final month’s payment. We will communicate with each of these teams individually regarding what to expect in regards to a potential refund or credit toward a future program, decrease in the final amount due, etc. We will endeavor to communicate this information as soon as possible and no later than the week of April 6th.

Teams w/ Final Payment due in April: 18-1, 18-2, 18-3, 14-White, 14-Maroon, 13-3, 13-Black, 13-White, 12-2, 12-3, 11-1, 11-2

We are suspending the final payment due in April for these teams until we have a final determination about what will occur in regards to each team’s remaining season. To be clear, we are NOT indicating that a final payment will NOT be due in April or that some of these teams may be refunded additionally. We are simply suspending this final payment due until we know more about the remainder of the season for each team. For all of these teams, our staff will credit each athlete’s account for the amount due for her team in April. As we shared last week, last we checked SportEngine (the company through which we do monthly online billing) is unable to turn off notifications our existing customers receive. Please continue to ignore any notifications you receive so long as you have paid all but your final payment due in April.

Teams Scheduled to Play at AAU Nationals in Florida in June: all 17s, 16s, 15s, 14-1, 14-2, 14-3, 14-Black, 13-1, 13-2, 12-1

April payments should still be made as scheduled. Please bring your account current through the payment due in April. Rationale: 1. We still have May and June payments due that can be used to reconcile for training and tournaments lost. 2. We have paid for the great majority of expenses for the end of season event in Orlando - tournament registration, all initial payments and some final payments for vacation homes, and virtually all flights for coaches have all been purchased. And of course we have paid tournament registrations for all events not (yet?) cancelled that are set to occur in May and June.

What Will Become of Unfinished Volunteer Requirement Hours?

First, we do expect that there will yet be volunteer opportunities later this spring, this summer and this fall. Families can still work off their hours through these expected opportunities. Because a great many volunteer opportunities have been lost, we do feel compelled to offer a solution to those who have not yet completed their hours. If you are due a refund and wish to, we will consider your volunteer requirement fulfilled in an exchange for $12/volunteer hour due OFF your refund due. Example: You are due a refund of $275 (once that information is finalized). You still have six volunteer-hours due. You can eliminate your volunteer requirement through taking $72 less on your refund - $203 rather than $275. Note the volunteer requirement can only be considered fulfilled in this way when used to lessen a refund MN Select owes your family. If you are not due a refund, you can NOT fulfill your volunteer requirement in this way.

Take care! Be well! #VolleyON!
