Minnesota Select Volleyball Club Concepts

  1. Physical Practice: There is no substitute for hard work in this program. It is our intent that players participating understand the value of hard work in achieving goals. Giving extra effort will give us a competitive edge over our opponents.
  2. Mental Practice: Hard work, good technique, and desire do not always lead to the “ultimate success.” The mental edge is needed. Improved confidence and relaxed concentration are the keys. We will work on mental skills so that we can develop a mental attitude that will give us an edge.
  3. Class and Sportsmanship: It is expected that all players in the program will show the utmost respect for officials, opponents, teammates, coaches, facilities, and equipment.  We are representing our community, volleyball club, families, and ourselves. We will project a positive image through our actions both on and off the court. We will avoid any action that might injure our integrity as a team. Our conduct will reflect an organization of which we can be proud.
  4. Player-Coach Relationship: Communication is vital to help the relationship between players and coaches. We will attempt to constantly let players know where they stand on our teams, and what they need to do to improve. This will hopefully eliminate guessing and misunderstandings for the players. Creating a positive atmosphere on our teams will enhance open communication. It is our hope that players will feel free to talk to us about any questions they might have.
  5. Hustle: You are expected to hustle on the court. You will hustle from the beginning of every practice to the end of every practice. This will aid in showing team spirit, enthusiasm, and intensity.
  6. Being an athlete in this club means more that just showing up for practice and following training rules. An athlete must “give that extra effort” in terms of physical and mental practice. Making yourself into a better player translates into creating a better team and a better club. Do extra to be the best you can be.
  7. You’ll always play hard until you hear the whistle blow: Never give up on a play, even if you know you’ve made a mistake…until the whistle blows. Mistakes can be made up for through hustle. NEVER GIVE UP!
  8. When you walk on the volleyball court, be ready to think VOLLEYBALL. Practice time is for practice and hard work. One must have TOTAL CONCENTRATION and COMMITMENT for quality practice time. No cell phones, friends, or boyfriends. We will play like we practice.
  9. An athlete must be prepared for anything during a game. Top physical conditioning will beat an opponent more times than not. Players must be willing to take on hard conditioning during practice as a challenge.
  10. Within our teams, we must ALL trust each other. As players, you must trust your coaches, and all decisions that are made. It is important that all players be willing to sacrifice their own personal goals for the goals of the team.
  11. There is no substitute for team unity. Always support each other and show respect for each other on and off the court. Everyone in the club is important regardless of what team she plays on or her playing time.
  12. What happens within a team stays with the team. We will not allow gossip to tear our teams apart.
  13. Attitude is contagious. Attitudes shape concentration, improvement, teamwork, and performance. Always be positive with your teammates. Attitudes not conducive to building strong teams will not be tolerated. Players displaying poor attitudes may be asked to leave practice. Players not willing to improve their attitudes may be asked to leave the team. Good attitudes in practice will carry over to winning attitudes in a match. NOTHING GREAT HAS EVER BEEN ACHIEVED WITHOUT THE RIGHT ATTITUDE.
  14. We will conduct ourselves with class, on and off the court. This means we win without bragging and lose without excuses. Again, we are representing our community, club, families, and ourselves as individuals. In every situation, show pride, respect, and sportsmanship. You will be remembered longer for your character than for your record or playing ability.
  15. Club and team success has a direct relationship to individual commitment. To be a successful club and team, each player must make a commitment to the club and team. It takes hard work to be successful. If we’re not successful we have no one to blame but ourselves.
