General Information

3rd and 4th Grade Program
TBD

5th and 6th Grade Program
TBD

What is the goal of the program?
The goal of the program is to teach the FUNdamentals of volleyball while emphasizing the FUN of playing an organized sport.
A lower net and lighter ball will be used so participants can have success at all skills.  Participants will receive fundamental skill training and get an opportunity to play volleyball during each session.  More experienced participants can expect to be challenged according to their skill ability.  (no previous volleyball experience necessary)
Once again, we are offering more advanced training for 5th & 6th grade girls who have participated in at least two rec. / in-house league sessions OR one season of JO volleyball AND have the ability to serve overhand.  Girls that meet BOTH of these requirements will be placed on advanced teams.

Where does this program take place?

All sessions will occur at Ralia Sports Center in Maple Grove.  Ralia Sports Center is a fantastic multi-sport facility with four volleyball courts.  It is located at 8686 Valley Forge Lane N in Maple Grove.

When does this program take place?

Sessions run Saturday, September TBD – Saturday, October TBD, 2008.  (No sessions Thursday, October 16 and Saturday, October 18 due to MEA.)  Saturday times will vary from week to week.  Schedule will be posted at www.mnselect.com.  Specific dates are based on age group and detailed below.

Who is coaching?
We ask for parent volunteers to coach our teams.  Coaches will be asked to attend a training session on TBD, TBDpm at Ralia.  The program’s first sessions will be supported with student-athletes from local high school programs as well.

What is the format of this program?
The first three sessions will be devoted to skills training.  Thereafter, Saturdays will be game days and weeknights will be dedicated to further skill development and a one-game match.  Participants will be placed on teams based on 1) experience and 2) school attended. There will be teams of 3rd & 4th graders and 5th & 6th graders.  Note: This fall we will once again make more advanced teams for 5th & 6th grade girls that have more experience.

How much does the program cost?
The registration fee is $TBD, this covers all costs – administration, gym rental, equipment, and a t-shirt.

Registration
Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.  Registration for the 2008 fall league will be available during summer 2008.

Additional Information
Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early on the first day of the program to check-in and receive your program t-shirt.

Parents are more than welcome to stay and observe sessions. Please remain in the spectator areas (rather than coming out on the courts).

What to wear:
Participants should wear a tee-shirt, shorts, and court shoes. We ask that all participants wear a tee-shirt rather than a camisole or tank top because of the postures they play in. Also, we ask that participants carry in their court shoes and change into them upon arrival. This helps keep the court surface clean, dry, and safe in case of rain. Participants can wear kneepads as well if they wish.

What to bring:
Participants should bring a clearly labeled water bottle.
